CFU count is the number most brands shout about, but the research increasingly points to strain diversity and delivery survivability as the more meaningful variables.

Prebiotic fiber is the other half of the equation. Live cultures need substrate; inulin, GOS and resistant starch all serve that role.

Food first is still the best advice: fermented foods and 30+ plant varieties per week correlate strongly with microbiome diversity. Supplements fill the gap, they don't replace the plate.
